Call for Proposals: Cultural Journeys: Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults"

Friends and Colleagues:

The first edition of Cultural Journeys: Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults was published in 2006.  As co-authors, Pam and I was excited about the release of the book and are now equally excited about the 2nd edition to be coming out late December 2010/Early January 2011.  We believe that part of the strength of the book are the unit plans developed by classroom teachers that center around the six genres: 1) picture books; 2) folktales, fairy tales and tall tales; 3) historical fiction; 4) nonfiction: biography, information texts, and autobiography; 5) realistic fiction; and 6) poetry.  We know the study of multicultural literature is an important undertaking for teachers and students at all levels; and we are confident that the resources in this book will aid both in-service and preservice teachers. The discussions in the text will relate primarily to literature written for, about, or by: African-Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans and Native Americans.  We are also exploring more resources on Middle Eastern literature.

I am asking your assistance in recommending PK-8 teachers in the field who might be able to contribute a unit for one of the genres. Those teachers selected will have a bio included in the book as well as their unit plan. In the first edition, we were able to include seven teachers from across the country.  School districts represented included, Flint, MI; Mt. Pleasant, MI; Birmingham, MI; Denver, CO; and Kentucky.

We are looking for, at least, seven more teachers for this next edition. So, if you know someone who might be interested, can work within deadlines and whose work would complement the book, please provide me with their email address or have them contact me directly.  My contact information is below.  I hope to have identified the teachers by May 1st, but would welcome replies by April 1st .

Let me know if you have any questions. Also, if interested, the book at in many libraries, book stores or online and the citation is:
